The Municipality of Ílhavo has a monthly program dedicated to families, offering moments of leisure, culture and learning for all ages. These activities, promoted by the municipality in partnership with various local institutions, are held at the Municipal Library, the Maritime Museum, the Municipal Road Education School, and the Municipal Swimming Pools, among other cultural facilities.
Among the highlights of the program are the Saturdays for the Whole Family, with the Bebeteca and the Hora do Conto, which provide contact with books and reading from an early age.
During morning, at 10.30am, the Bebeteca is the ideal space for the little ones, where the universe of books comes to life. Here, babies from 9 months to 3 years old can enjoy a warm and stimulating environment. The space offers the opportunity to explore stories, awaken curiosity and develop the imagination in a playful and creative way. Reading mediators organize special sessions with sensory exploration, music, yoga and theater.
Hora do Conto takes place at 4.30pm for children aged 4 and over, where stories come to life. Each session is a magical journey through books that captivate the attention of the little ones, promoting the love of reading. The stories are told in a fun and interactive way, creating a unique and unforgettable experience.
At the Ílhavo Municipal Library, the magic of reading makes the eyes of the smallest readers shine as they take their first steps into the literary world!
We also highlight the regular programming of 23 Milhas, which includes shows for the youngest, in a program aimed at families with children from babies to teenagers. Culture is one of the pillars of education and that’s why 23 Milhas promotes debates, meetings, workshops and shows aimed at different age groups.
At the beginning of 2025, the 23Milhas program began with the project CA.LEI.DOS.CÓ.PI.CO, a theater show for children that looks at children beyond their size: as an autonomous force of citizenship, capable of making decisions, exercising their rights and taking an active role in their experience of themselves and others.
CA.LEI.DOS.CÓ.PI.CO also had a workshop for families, led by Ana Gil and Nuno Leão, from Terceira Pessoa, in which children and adults were challenged to enter a universe of shapes and colors, and through movement games, theater, visual and plastic arts, they explored the idea that everything is constantly changing. And that one thing can be many things.
The agenda for children and young people proposed by 23Milhas is always based on this idea of diversity and multiple ways of seeing the world.
