Following its membership of the European Network of Family-Friendly Municipalities and its participation in the presentation of best practices in Brussels, Galapagar is taking another step forward in its commitment to family wellbeing.
The Department for Children, Youth and Families has launched the ‘Plan Impulso’, a pioneering initiative designed to alleviate the stress and anxiety experienced by families during June, a time of crucial exams and the search for a first job.
The transition to higher education or the labour market is often one of the most uncertain times for the family unit; for this reason, and to address this challenge, Galapagar has transformed its ‘Punto Joven’ into a comprehensive strategic guidance centre.
The Councillor for Children and Youth, Elena Álvarez, emphasises that the aim is not only to guide young people, but also to provide reassurance to parents: “When a student fails to achieve the required grade or faces their first job interview, the stress affects the whole family. With the Impulso Plan, the local council is taking on the responsibility of supporting them, offering real, viable and free alternatives so that no family has to face this stage alone”.
This initiative, which will run throughout June and will act as a strategic umbrella for family support, includes:
- Ongoing individual counselling: A personalised in-person and online service to build tailor-made educational pathways.
- ‘Recalculating the Route’: An innovative workshop designed to manage academic frustration, teaching parents and children about alternative routes to university and vocational training when the expected grades are not achieved.
- Introduction to the labour market and social action: Through specific programmes, young people are prepared for their first secure entry into the labour market, and participation in volunteering and European mobility programmes is encouraged.
With this initiative, Galapagar consolidates its position as a municipality that views youth policies not as isolated measures, but as a fundamental pillar of the ecosystem and family stability.
