Situated, exactly, in the Geodesic Centre of Portugal, the Municipality of Vila de Rei is a part of Pinhal Interior Sul area, comprising the administrative district of Castelo Branco (comprehending the south-western end of the region) and the diocese of Portalegre and Castelo Branco. The 193,44 sq. of the Municipality area is occupied by around 4000 inhabitants, allocated in 94 small villages which assemble three parish councils: Vila de Rei, Fundada e São João do Peso.
Bordered to the north by Ribeira da Isna, to the south by the Ribeira do Codes and the west by Zêzere River, the Municipality sees itself as a peninsula, which confers it specific characteristics, clearly expressed in the landscape.
The territory is quite mountainous, reaching altitudes near the 600 metres, as Melriça Mountain, ex-libris of the Municipality, because it lodges Picoto da Melriça – Geodesic Centre of Portugal.
Nowadays, Vila de Rei is well served with good road access, whenever visitors come from.
