
S. Benedetto Val di Sambrois a mountain municipality halfway between Bologna and Florence. The municipality stretches to the ridge of the Tosco-Romagnolo Apennine and borders on the Province of Florence to the South, with the valleys of the Savena and Setta Rivers crossing it on both sides.
The Sambro River, after which this valley is named, flows in the middle It is easily reachable from Florence or Bologna through two main connections: the Autostrada del Solet motorway and the Direttissima Bologna-Firenze railway.
The lake of Castel dell’Alpi, the only natural one in the Province of Bologna, is a must-see. Monte Bastione (1.190 m a.s.l.) is the highest peak, followed by Monte del Cucchi (1.140 m a.s.l.). The municipality was officially established here in 1924, though it had been seated in Pian del Voglio from 1796 to 1871.
