The Municipality of Primiero San Martino, situated in eastern Trentino, is the most extensive municipality of the Autonomous Province of Trento with an area of 200.74 km2. It is the heart of the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park, that was declared, together with all the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its distinctive landscapes, geology and integrality. Numerous small and medium-sized valleys join the main valley, amongst these the valley carved out by the Cereda torrent to the east.
The territory of the Municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza is alpine. Its verticality is its fundamental characteristic: altitudes range from the 710 metres above sea level of Fiera di Primiero to the 3,192 m of the Cima Vezzana, the highest summit of the pale di San Martino chain. In these almost 2,500 metres of elevation gain, there are many different naturalistic and human elements that have evolved over the millenniums: the villages are on the valley floor, rising altitude we find the rural alpine areas called masi and above 1,400 metres there are the alpine dairy farms-malghe. Vast wooded areas extending us to almost 2,00 metres and finally the mountains.
