
Mezzana is situated in the center of Val di Sole and for this reason, over the centuries, it has played a role of reference for the passage of goods and people. As a matter of fact, the Castellaccio, worked as a control tower for activities and business.
This locality is crossed from west to east by the River Noce; on the left side there is Ortles Cevedale mountain chain and on the right side Presanella group. The ancient human settlements have sprung up on the left bank, than is the sunniest side, here you can find Mezzana (941 metres), Roncio (1051 metres), and the hamlets of Ortisè (1479 metres) and Menas (1517 metres).
At the end of the ’60s, to increase the tourist offer in particular for the winter season, on the right side of River Noce, the resorts of Marilleva 900 and Marilleva 1400 were built. In the woods there are a rich variety of trees: spruce, larch, pine, and broad-leaved trees, while in the undergrowth you can find wild berries and different kinds of mushrooms. Due to its goodness, those woods are the ideal habitat for many animals such as deer, roe deer, fox, stone marten and ermine. Moreover, there are many varieties of birds, both migratory and sedentary. The economy of the past was mainly based on woodland-pasture activities, whereas nowadays predominant space has been given to tourist-commercial activities, which have become the driving forces for the economy of the valley and offer many different chances.
During the summer you can spend your time taking beatiful excursions admiring breathtaking landscapes, horse riding or cycling; on the River Noce you can also go rafting or canoeing.
During the winter you can enjoy your time skiing on many kilometers of well-shaped slopes. the ski lovers can start from Marilleva 900 and reach Marilleva 1400 with a modern gondola lift or with their own cars; from here skiers can choose different directions to reach Folgarida and Madonna di Camiglio dolomiti di Brenta skiarea.
