
Cascais is a borough of 97km2 with 206.429 inhabitants situated near the Capital City and with a coastal line of some 20km that stage, made it a location for tourism and for holiday housing. Currently, the borough is being integrated in the development process of the city of Lisbon, at the same becoming a region of tourism as well as a dormitory of the Capital. Between 2001 and 2011 Cascais became the 6° biggest council of the country, with an increase of 21% of the population. The municipality of Cascais is a collective entity of public law endowed with representative bodies that act in the interests of their respective population. For the development of its various relevant projects and actions, the municipality establishes specific partnerships with central administration through program contracts with parishes, local associations and entities of the academy. The strategy of sustainability for Cascais includes a vision of a territory that is cohesive trough social diversion and social inclusion and that promotes active citizenship. The goal is to achieve a council that is innovative, healthy, equitable, inclusive and cohesive for all.
