Baião is a municipality located in the North of Portugal, specifically in the District of Porto. The Municipality of Baião is made up of 14 “freguesias”. ln 2021 it had 17,500 inhabitants and a population density of 100 inhabitants per square kilometer. Baião is a territory with predominantly rural characteristics.
The main economic activities are agriculture, with emphasis on livestock production and wine production, services, the social sector, construction and tourism. Baião is the municipality with the highest percentage of green area in the district and has several elements of great natural value such as the Marão mountain range, the Aboboreira mountain range, the Ovil river, the Teixeira river or the Douro river. The main ways of accessing the municipality of Baião are the road and the railway (Douro line).
