An initiative of the Portuguese Large Families Association (APFN) that will award for the first time 95 Portuguese Municipalities
The Portuguese Observatory for the Family Friendly Municipalities (OAFR) will deliver on January 26th, in Coimbra, green flags for Portuguese municipalities with family-friendly policies, as well as diplomas to those who joined the European Network of Family-Friendly Municipalities.
In the 14th edition, 145 portuguese municipalities filled the annual survey and 95 municipalities will receive the green flag of “Family Friendly Municipality”, a number that increased 13%, compared to the 84 entities last year. The municipalities awarded for the first time were: Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo (Guarda district); Anadia (Aveiro district); Montemor-o-Velho (Coimbra district); Porto de Mós (Leiria district); Mira (Coimbra district); Penacova (Coimbra district); Viana do Alentejo (Évora district); São Brás de Alportel (Faro district); Felgueiras (Porto district).
The districts with the highest number of distinguished municipalities were: Coimbra (15), Lisbon (11); Aveiro (9); Santarém (8); Braga (7) and Faro, Guarda and Porto (6 municipalities each). It should be noted that six municipalities have repeated the OAFR distinction for 14 years in a row now: Angra do Heroísmo, Cantanhede, Torres Novas, Torres Vedras, Vila de Rei and Vila Real.
The head of the Observatory, Vitória Salvado, highlights that, “it’s clear that proximity policies reflect the real needs of families, seeking to respond to them. And the answers have been effectively given, with very relevant impacts for thousands of Portuguese families”.
