Green Family – Generational Fairness in Climate Change

The Topic

Within the ongoing conversations on climate change and environmental protections, governments and scholars alike are becoming more aware of the socioeconomic aspects embedded in the debate. Incentives such as subsidising e-mobility or energy-efficient construction encourage sustainable behaviour. However, not everyone has the resources and opportunity to adapt. Families, in particular, are at risk of suffering from political measures that do not sufficiently take socioeconomic vulnerabilities into account. For example, where a family lives and whether they have children or relatives in their care can change how they engage with sustainability efforts. As Europe ages and family forms diversify, this online discussion explores how families can be empowered to mitigate and adapt to the already inescapable climate change, and how governments can achieve fairness between and within generations.
