Reading is a fundamental tool for the cognitive and emotional development of people. In the case of families with members with functional diversity, its importance takes on a fundamental role.
The Department of Family announces the start of a pioneering educational project, under the name “Elefantes de Papel: reading club for families with children with functional diversity”. This project seeks to promote the habit of reading, create a support network and offer educational resources to families.
The club meets every Friday between September and December. In addition, on the last Saturday of each month, board game sessions are organised between participating families.

9 Evaluation - impact - outcomes
Parents are very grateful for this initiative, as they did not have a free activity in Orihuela designed especially for these children, which works on reading comprehension and communication skills in board games. The success also lies in the fact that the teacher, who is an expert in special education, works with the parent and the child (it is mandatory for one of the parents to be at the club with their child). In this way, the teacher teaches the technique and the activity and they work on it at home until the next session.
Thanks to the success, another activity is being studied, specifically a film session adapted to children with autism who cannot enjoy going to see a film at the cinema with their family.
