The city of Alghero is preparing for a special October with the sixth edition of the Alghero Family Festival, a major event celebrating families. For an entire month, children, young people, adults, and seniors will find dedicated activities: workshops, shows, celebrations, conferences, sports and cultural events, in a calendar that unites communities and generations.
The festival is promoted by the Family Policies Office of the Municipality of Alghero, which since 2016 has been entrusted under a subsidiarity regime to the National Association of Large Families. Alghero was the first municipality in Italy outside of Trentino to receive the
Family-Friendly Municipality certification in 2017. This recognition has made the city a national reference point and the leader of a network of Family Municipalities in Italy and Europe. This process has included the perspective of families in all administrative decisions and today aims to make welfare policies increasingly transversal.
“The Alguer Family Festival is part of our Family Policy Plan,” the Office emphasizes, “an opportunity to promote the family as an irreplaceable resource and a tool for the region’s growth.”
The Program
The 2025 calendar opened on Thursday, October 2nd, with the Piccolo Circolo di Lettori (Little Readers’ Circle) at the A. Fadda Nursing Home, a gathering of children and seniors to share stories. From October 3rd to 5th, the historic center was transformed into a large Lego brick workshop with Bricks in Town, featuring three exhibitions, workshops, and creative challenges. Also on October 5th, the CRAI Alghero Family Run took place, a family run-walk with more than 5,090 participants.
Thanks to the collaboration of associations, schools, businesses, and neighborhoods, the festival offers experiences for all ages: blind readings for pre-teens, traditional games, creative workshops, guided tours, and outdoor activities. Special Family Tickets will also provide discounted access to the city’s museums, cultural sites, and natural attractions.
