VIDEO: 15 May, International Day of Families: Greetings from European Large Families Associations

The United Nations DESA’s Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD) through its Focal Point on the Family supports the worldwide observance of the International Day of Families(15 May) by organizing an official international observance of the Day at UN Headquarters in New York focusing on topics relevant to the UN Development Agenda. Background information on families and a selected topic is prepared for the use by Governments, the UN system, including the regional commissions, and UN Information Centres and NGOs. An annual message of the Secretary-General is prepared for wide distribution.

This year the theme was “Families in Development: Copenhagen & Beijing + 25”. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic brings into sharp focus the importance of investing in social policies protecting the most vulnerable individuals and families. It is the families who bear the brunt of the crisis, sheltering their members from harm, caring for out of school children and at the same time continuing their work responsibilities.

ELFAC was invited by Renata Kaczmarska, from the Un Focal Point on the Family in New York, to join the online celebration of the 2020 International Day of Families. You can watch the UN seminar here.

On occasion of this meeting, representatives of ELFAC associations joined together an online meeting 45 minutes before the UN session to give greetings for this day.

There were present representatives from Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Romania.

You can watch the greetings on the video below
